Conserve your smart phone’s application storage

6 Oct

How many apps are on your Android?  Want more, but have no memory?  With a SD card in your phone you may download APP2SD, this application will allow you to transfer the download(s) to the SD card’s memory. Newer software versions / phone models may not have a removable memory option and / or may not allow for applications to be stored on  an alternate storage option.

Simply download the app fro the Google Play Store,  search for App2SD and install.   Once the install has completed locate   , the menu will immediately show you which apps are movable to the SD card.  Notice at the top tool bar MOVABLE, ON SD CARD, AND PHONE ONLY.  The image shown here has MOVABLE selected, here you may select which apps to move.   If you ever need to place the app. beck onto your phone’s memory you may select ON SD CARD, select the desired app. then choose MOVE TO DEVICE.

To clean up applications can be the best solution if your Android is acting a bit sluggish or simply crashing.  The process is very quick and easy.  First go into the device SETTINGS–> APPLICATION MANAGER (some devices will read out APPS)–>

clear app cache from the app manager

While in the Application manager take a moment to clean out the applications that you use frequently.  You can also download an app to assist with application cache,  click here  for additional resources

How to Improve Battery Management on Android, iOS, Windows

15 Jul

Last I checked the leading issue on smart phones is getting through an entire day without not running to a source of power.  I know of many sweet gadgets that will allow me to reboot throughout the day but what can my “SMART PHONE” do?  There are always additional options for every smartphone or tablet.  Battery management is a great place to start, below I provide 13 recommendations to get you started.

TOP 13 BATTERY MANAGEMENT RECOMMENDATIONS

  1. Email refresh rates should be reduced to 1hr if possible or manual.
  2. Disable vibrations
  3. Disable app specific notification content and sync rates.
  4. Use less widgets / tiles
  5. Use the home charger the smart phone / tablet came with.  This charger is optimized to function with your device for best results.  Note car chargers are typically universal meaning they are optimized for short burst of charging on any compatible connector.
  6. Disable WiFi prompts / disable unless at home or work.
  7. Disable Bluetooth unless constant connection to an ear piece, car sync, or regular transfer of files.
  8. Disable location when not in some search instances, navigation
  9. Auto Adjust is not needed unless frequent reading in dark areas.
  10. Avoid leaving smart phone / tablet in extreme temperature conditions, for this effects the performance of any battery.
  11. Toggle   between 2G / 3G and 4G networks when necessary
  12. Disable cellular data connection
  13. Power cycle device when signal has been an issue.

To properly complete a power cycle

You want to first take notice if information is being transmitted. If it is, keep in mind the first attempt to power down may take a bit longer to process due to the device “jamming up”.  Power off the device and leave it off for a very long 30 seconds.

Take your time to power on the device

As the power up visuals appear, do not access any of the menus or attempt to make an outbound call, email or any message through various apps.  Your  device is transmitting through various channels, so let it do its job and communicate.  Emails, voice mails, text messages and so much more will begin to flood in to the notification bar.  If their are many email accounts and Social Media apps be extra patient the device is chugging through it all 🙂

GPS will also take a moment to position you, so let it chug and all will be better soon.  If these recommendations are not a quick fix for you please reach out to a consultant in your area, or tech support with the carrier.

Battery Management Applications for Android, Apple and Windows 8

Many portable devices now have a stock app which has battery management / saver options.  Please refer to your device for such an app prior to installing any apps to do the same thing.  You never want two apps attempting to complete the same exact task at the same time.  Counter productive if you get my drift.  This counter productivity is also hard on the device.  Apps NOT TO DUPLICATE Antivirus, Malware, and task killers!

Evernote 5 Update for Androids / Apple iOs

16 Apr

As of late (6.17.2014) Evernote now integrates with Sunrise a calendar app (Andorid and iOS),reminds you from Evernote, and syncs up with an assortment of other event planning apps; Tripit, Songkick and a few more…. although at this time event can can’t be edited from other apps or services.

Evernote has provides many media file features ; camera improvements, making it possible to take multiple photos of documents or anything else while saving all under one note.  Very similar to Skitch which allows you to draw in various colors (see Skitch for additional tips & tricks).

Shortcuts, were also updated for Android users, users can jump to notes, notebooks and tags that are accessed frequently.  For premium users Document Search is now available, search in attached office documents, spreadsheets and presentations.

Evernote adds a level of connectivity to your various devices;  (smart phones, tablets) for all OS’s, including laptops and all desktops.  Stay connected for school projects and/or team projects, capture pictures and/or storage of pic file(s) including those captured from Skitch.  Create notes to self, access files frequently shared, there are so many more functions of life one may utilize Evernote.

Several apps and/or OS’s are  now taking  steps to communicate efficiently across multiple devices enough for me to choose one and only one cloud based provider for personal and professional  storage of files.   The industry is still accommodating to the general public on ease of use, and functionality.   At this time they all provide ample storage for any one person so it is an awesome time for users to try them all and identify which cloud based storage is best suited for your personal and professional use.  Below I have provided links to download.

Evernote at this time does no have an official storage limit, although you are permitted a monthly upload of 60Mb for FREE.  Annually 720Mb, and 7 Gb 10 years.
